HENRY KROKATSIS

NEW PERMANENT SCULPTURE UNVEILED
Turning Tree
Ladywell Fields
Park entrance from Anderson Road, Lewisham
from April 2014

We are delighted to announce that UP Projects, working in partnership with the Arts Council and Lewisham Council, will unveil a new permanent sculpture by Henry Krokatsis, 'Turning Tree' in Ladywell Fields.

Krokatsis has taken a section of fallen Black Poplar tree, found in the park after a storm in 2014, and cast the trunk in polished aluminium.

Lying horizontally in the River Ravensbourne and raised above the water surface, the glistening tree trunk will gently turn in response to change in the water current. This poetic sculpture creates a quiet monument to nature, transforming a moment of natural devastation into a visionary intervention in the park’s riverscape.

Turning Tree will launch on Saturday 16th May, from 1pm,with an artist-led tour and talk, where Krokatsis will discuss his practice and the process of making this unique and technically challenging public sculpture.
