As with a lot of Bogart's titles ‘Lousy Jane’ was named by Bram's wife Leni. The painting was made in the Rue Santeuil in Paris in 1960. Leni was reading a novel with a woman named Lousy Jane as a main character. Bruno Sargentini from the gallery L’Attico bought it for an exhibition and the first collector was P.Campilli of Roma. We purchased it from David and Rita Hughes, the directors godfather who had it in his home for the last 30 years. Its is considered one of Bogart's masterpieces and equal to any from this pivotal year, the last time he painted using just canvases before the paintings became too heavy and needed structural support from specialist frames.
