Ibrahim El-Salahi: No Shade but His Shade
No Shade but His Shade comprises paintings from 1957 - 1968, a seminal period in El-Salahi's practice.

Paintings presented include iconic works such as Alphabet 1, 1960 (Alphabet 2 is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York); and No Shade but His Shade, 1968, a masterpiece until now kept in the private collection of the artist, and exhibited in three major museum exhibitions.

These join important pieces such as They Always Appear, 1961, an extremely rare work from the same series as Reborn Sounds of Childhood Dreams, 1961-65, held in the collection of Tate Modern, London; Untitled, 1960-61, one of the most exquisite calligraphic paintings featured in El-Salahi's Tate Modern short film; and Untitled, 1964, an incredible painting never before shown in public, from a Sudanese family collection.

Alongside the exhibition, a selection of rare works on paper from the fifties, sixties and seventies will be available to view privately at the gallery.
